Haggar
Audio Staff
When Rob Haggar founded Haggar Audio in 1985, the world of audio production was quite a bit different than it is today. Razor blades, recording tape, and turntables were the norm; digital audio workstations, DAT decks, and recordable CDs were still somewhere in the future.
Since then, music and sound effects libraries on CD replaced the records, computers replaced the reel-to-reel decks, computer sound files and CD-ROMs replaced reels of tape...but while the technology changed, Rob's award-winning production style has remained the same.
A typical day for Rob includes...well, really, there is no typical day. Every project is unique; the day might start off with recording some narration for a corporate video, then move onto producing a local radio spot, and finish with running digital audio restoration on a microcasette for an area law firm...or he may spend a few days sweetening and mixing a national television campaign, making sure all the elements are in perfect balance and the the mix sounds just right.
Clients love Rob's ability to quickly find and cut together just the right piece of music, or to find just the right sound effect...and clients also love Rob's "ear"; his ability to give each television show or corporate video a sound that can't be purchased in a computer software package-they know that all the technology in the world is only as good as the person using it.
Rob has an extensive background in music and communications, which led to a successful career as a radio personality in Lincoln, Nebraska; Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota; and here in Madison, Wisconsin. He then started Haggar Audio, and since then, he has lent his voice and talents to thousands of projects and won numerous awards...finalist at the New York Film Festival, Radio's Best Awards, Silver Mike Awards, Telly Awards, and local, regional, and national Addy awards.
Recent notable credits include sound designer, music editor,
and mixer for Discovery Channel's "Flood of the Milennium" &
Discovery Channel's "Billion Dollar Disasters" series (produced
by Murphy
Entertainment Group); National Geographic Channel's "Wildlife
Detectives" series (also produced by MEG); dialog editor, music
editor, sound designer and mixer for ChillStar Pictures' feature
film "Stricken"
(now available on DVD), and Modern Ping-Pong's film "No
Sleep 'til Madison" (currently making the film fest circuit).
Kevin Fulk joined Haggar Audio in early 1993, shortly after completing his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As Haggar Audio grew, Kevin's role increased seemingly every day until he reached his current position as Haggar Audio's "jack-of-all-trades, master of...some."
Kevin started as Haggar Audio's field recordist, logging thousands
of miles with headphones and a shotgun microphone working with
video and film crews ranging from local production companies,
to nationally syndicated shows and all of the major broadcast
and many cable networks. When he wasn't in the field, Kevin
was in Haggar Audio's duplication center, running cassette and
reel-to-reel dubs, although he doesn't really remember what
those are anymore. His background in Madison radio and television
helped make the transition to studio work, and with another editor, soon a small
"Studio B" was under construction.
When Haggar Audio moved to it's new state-of-the-art Raymond Road studios in 2000, Kevin supervised engineering aspects of the new studio's construction, running miles of wire and soldering hundreds of connectors to assemble 2 of the most complicated stereo systems he had ever seen...and it turned out that HeathKit alarm clock he built as a child taught him that some equipment reacts better to a kind word and a slap than to a kind word alone.
With digital audio comes computer systems, and depending on how smoothly systems and networks run, they can be a producer's best friend or worst enemy. Kevin makes sure ANY studio computer problems are quickly solved...and with the number of digital audio formats and media increasing every day, he's always able to make equipment and data work together as it should.
While Kevin has won awards as a producer in his own right, clients
value his expertise as a dialog editor to bring film and video
projects to a higher level. His knowledge of emerging technologies
helps clients do things technologically that they may not have
thought possible. He still works out of the office as a field
recordist, is utilized as a unique voice talent, manages the
technical aspects of the studios, and most recently has been
tapped as Haggar Audio's webmaster. |
